Ignis Fatuu is a German band playing folk metal. The bands medieval folk sound is created using the flute, violin and bagpipe. Accompanied (of course) by traditional metal instruments. The band emphasizes the folk elements of their music though, using their metal influences mainly to give the folk tunes an extra boost. This is not a particularly “happy” style of folk, the band seems to be specialized in beautiful and sad folk tunes, although not sad in a gloomy way, the songs are pretty fast, but sound melancholic some way. Now they have their new album released.
The lyrics are all in German. The sound is medieval and rocking. Bag pipes and violin as well as flutes complete the sound. The songs are mostly sung by a male, but sometimes a female is supporting the vocals. The music is strong and the lyrics are medieval as well. The entire album is through and through full of folk metal. 13 songs full of catchy medieval melodies and deep lyrics. “Es Werde Licht” is a thriving album that gets every medieval and folk fan going along. Enjoy.
