The Italian band En Declin is back with a second full length album after releasing the debut called “Trama” in 2005. Their new release is called “Domino/Consequence”
En Declin is a band that makes emotional rock music. Melancholic enough to be seen as chart material, though the band rather choose to follow their hearts than including the typical catchiness of a top 40 song. At the first listening, the album may come a bit sad and cold but it is not really a dark or doomy album. There is plenty of light on the horizon. It is mainly the guitars that often let your mind drift off to think about life and dig into your inner self attempting to give this all a place. The point where the music turns into a bit heavier version of what En Declin is capable of is reached when the fifth song “Domino” is playing. A sort of reference to Katatonia might be heard, but please forget about this rather sooner than later as En Declin produces their very own sound.
The best points of this album are the compositions selves as the instruments are distributed very well, leaving space for each other but yet fill up the songs. Also to mention are the vocals who come controlled, balanced and calm. The lesser point of this album might be the variation. The eleven songs that the album carries are all in one line, a bit too similar. For quite some people this might be a reason to turn it off before it is ended, which is a shame as En Declin is just pleasant to listen to listen to.
