30-09-2009 Cinema Bizarre

Supports: Blowsight; Venue: Batschkapp, Frankfurt (Germany)
By: Nina Mende

I just had returned from Los Angeles and went straight to another show. Tonight it was something that probably only a few expected me to go to. I personally found it very interesting to get to see this show. It was going to be a teenie show, you could already tell by all the free parking lots. But it also wasn’t too crowded in the Batschkapp tonight.

The band that was playing was Cinema Bizarre. Their opening act was a band from Stockholm/Sweden, called Blowsight. A emo band playing rock music. The Batschkapp was half empty this Wednesday night. But the kids that were there, enjoyed the show of the Swedes. They rocked around on stage and moved a lot, talking to the audience and having a blast. Their performance lasted for about half an hour. The teenagers up front were dancing along and screaming after each song. The parents stood further in the back watching and drinking.

The next band was Cinema Bizarre from Germany, a glam pop-rock anime band with totally straight hair. Their music is quite danceable and poppy. Actually they have a quite huge fanbase almost like Tokio Hotel, but tonight were not that many fans at the Batschkapp. Maybe because it was a weekday. Their fans were all still quite young, an average age of about 14. The only one of Cinema Bizarre who was moving around the entire time was the singer. He danced on stage while fans blew his hair up and played with the audience. The rest of the bands seemed quite shy during the show. The audience could sing along to all songs, old and new whereas I only knew the new songs off the latest album. The fans were dressed up like their idols, with the glam scarves and straight hair, glitter and glamour with a touch of punk. The singer talked a bit with the audience but they played more. The keyboarder wore a MISFITS shirt and was the only one not having such straight hair. Their show lasted for over an hour plus encore. During the encore the bass player began smiling and moving around more. He even talked to the audience a bit and got close to some friends in front of him. It was a nice show and I enjoyed it more than I had expected.
