Releasedate: 24-07-2009; Label: Pulverized Records
By: Sabine van Gameren
Death metal formation Bone Gnawer is a collaboration between Kam Lee, Rogga Johansson, Morgan Lie and Ronnie Bjornstrom, all known from several other projects. In this debut album called “Feast Of Flesh” they brought a record to light that includes some typical Swedish Death Metal, but does not turn its back to the American style.
The formation of Bone Gnawer dates back to 2008. All of these members placed together in one band are a guarantee for chaos. Literally. Brutal vocals and riffs that combine well, but yet cause conflict. It is all mid paced, not too original work, which is kind of a disappointment when seeing what the former acts of this musicians have brought. Maybe a release too much, in a relatively short amount of time for some of them.
Lyrically, the album seems to be built around the theme of cannibalism which might have been seen by the title already. Even though there is nothing new under the sun, Bone Gnawer produced their album well and show that they found a sort of formula for making songs. It’s not like you will listen the album too often though, that would bring an overkill. Like mainstream music can cause. And since when has Death Metal became mainstream? Since “Feast of Flesh”?
