Venue: Nuclear Nightclub, Oulu (Finland)
By: Sabine van Gameren
Finland’s most marvelous Findustry adventure had now decided to move its focus up to the north of the country. The first date being in the vibrant city of Oulu, followed by a night in the more cozy town Kajaani.
The first night up in the north would take place in Nuclear Nightclub. A bar which has a stage in its basement. Nightclub it is, as it soon becomes clear that the Oulu citizens are not likely to be seen out here very early. Such a shame as therefore most of them missed the first few songs of ErilaZ who was opening the evening here. While he takes the audience into a diverse trip through the songs that can be found on his latest release called: “Black God of The Hunt” the atmosphere becomes a bit more intense every minute. Towards the end of the set the people seemed more into it, apparently an act that has to grow on you.
When the local heroes of Quake The Earth enter the stage, it is clear they have their friends along. An explosive set follows as for the Metalcore unit does not hold back at one point at all. Perhaps some time to breathe would suit here and there, letting the whole become less of a giant wall approaching you. Yet, the band does not really need to cave in for the energy. Without problems they get their audience along as it seems they have seen the band before. Vocalist … decides to leave the stage for a while and come a bit closer with his followers making sure those in the back of the venue have their share of it too. A good performance of these guys, which showed a set in which they are clear about what they want to bring. It should not have been much longer though, then the lack of variation would have hacked up those who are to them.
Khroma extends their European tour activities with a show up north in their own country. The band has one thing that works for them after the explosive Quake The Earth and that is their intensity from the guitars that are not holding back, but give you right the power that is needed to bring the transition of the Metalcore towards the sound of Khroma which is totally different but share the passionate presentation of it. The vocals almost go psychedelic, intruding your thought and let the words for a different kind of image in your head, a trick that makes Khroma to what they are. A lot of power comes from drums as well, today very present and dominating in the sound which makes them stand out there while being a bit hidden in the tiny place. The concluding tracks they play are bringing the Khroma experience to its highlight and leave the consumers with some material to think of.
As final act Proteus enters the stage. Where this live performances have their reputation made it seems some dedicated fans have come out to enjoy the show. With the covers of Fear of Domination and Turmion Kätilöt songs in the beginning of the set, it sets down something recognizable for the first time visitors but it seems like the whole comes alive a bit more after that when it is al taken just a step further. A whole lot of activity seem to be going on and with the change of a hat it all gets a bit wilder. Certainly a nice way to end the evening with, a night in Oulu that started somewhat late but had plenty of power when it got going. Findustry’s mission up north part one has done its impact.
