Spin My Fate – 15-09-2012

Interview with: Simon Bosse and Janosch Hermann
By: Sabine van Gameren

When the German formation Spin My Fate was playing at Backyard Festival, we took our chance to take them apart for a little interview. Guitarist Simon and bassist Janosch chatted up with Tempelores.

Fresh from the stage the guys answered all our questions. ‘Act II: When Worlds Collide’ is the band’s second and latest album. Both of the albums were released by themselves, not having a label to support them, but as we start talking the guys seem to see that as a positive point. Of course there is the learning curve, “We planned to do the second one similar but better and more efficient” Janosch tells. In their search of finding someone to work with they stumbled upon a bunch of people with whom it just did not seem to work. Eventually the guys came in touch with Dennis Koehne. After sending him some material he quickly returned to the guys with it and it seemed they were very pleased with it. “We were stunned!” Simon says. When they were ready to start with the second album Dennis was on board.
The band clearly took their time for recording it all, which they find pleasant. During the 9 months they worked on it, they could use a lot of equipment in their own rehearsal room, so whenever they felt like it would not work they could simply delete it all and start all over again. All of this quite indicates that they create their music in the process of recording but the songs are played already before the recordings “We played them before, we played them a long time. Right now we already played some new songs that will be recorded. We already play them to get use to them” comments Janosch. That does not mean that if you hear it live you know already what will be on an upcoming album as they work at the track things may radically change whenever they feel the need for it.

So far about the process of creating, while wondering where it brought the guys seem to be hesitating with an answer. Janosch tells: “After the releaseshow we had some kind of blowout. The atmosphere was not clear for us. The tension was very strange.” The release party sounds successful though, about 700 people came to see the guys present their new material so obviously the guys can count on quite some support. “The show was great, but after that we had no gigs. We did not plan that we had to play more shows after the release of it. A release tour or something.” Simon says. This mainly caused them having a period of emptiness. Not knowing what would be next, but by now the guys seem all enthusiastic again. Janosch positively adds: “We can rely on some people that will be there. So that is perhaps one aspect we got from it.” That the guys are currently full of ideas and plans comes clear when we start talking about the future. The banhas quite some live video’s online and so there was someone filming the show of this as well. It surely gives people an idea of what they can expect people when they come to see the band live. Simon mentions they want to show people how they actually are and now show some ‘hollywood video’ of them. Janosch immediately adds that they actually plan to do a video for one of their songs, ‘Day of Redemption’ to be exact. But then when he continues to tell about this upcoming project he says there will be some live parts in there as well. “We will record some live action at the place where we played our release party. We invite people and we’ll shoot some live action there. We do it with our friends and fans together. Half Hollywood. The live recordings will be done at 03 November 2012 and we hope it to be done in March.
While this is still some months ahead there are more plans in mind. The band plans to release an unplugged album. “I had this vision of showing the band from another point of view. We are able to play in another way.” Simon tells. Plenty for the guys ahead as it seems, so we are sure we will hear more of the guys in 2013!
