12-08-2007 Lapko

Supports: Dia, Väärät Vierat; venue: Klubi, Tampere (Finland)
By: Sabine van Gameren

This night started with a Finnish band from the city Tampere. Although there were not that much people in this beautiful club called Klubi, only a few who found their selves a seat on the floor in front of the stage while waiting for headliner Lapko. With the amount of people in there kind of senseless in my opinion but if they feel very comfortable with it, I won’t be the one to stop them. Still a pity, that they could not have a very good vision on the stage where Väärät Vieraat started of. Not that they were even interested in what any other band would do. It could have been Michael Jackson standing up there and they would not have noticed.

Why do I care would you say? Well… in my opinion there was a very talented band playing out there. Hello, don’t you see it? This is a band which will   make it in future. Instrumentally this poppy punk band sounds perfectly balanced. The singer of the band definitely has the spirit of Sandra Nasic (Guano Apes) in her. Long blond hair dreads waving all over the stage. Yes! I feel her energy.   I really enjoyed watching them and although I have no idea where it is about, since she sings in Finnish, I still know what is going on. For a moment, I have caught the thoughts: How would they sound in English, but I dropped it. I think   this band will do very well in Finland.

How much as this first band surprised and pleased me, how much disappointed the next band me. Dia is kind of annoying me actually. The spoiled my pleasure from discovering a great band. Instrumental, it is not really that bad. But still nothing compared to Väärät vierat. It’s the vocal   part which annoys me mostly. It is not just me… When I have seen enough to decide that I can’t take it any longer, I walk outside and found more people which had the same thoughts. I am just happy that they don’t play that long, and with all the people waiting for Lapko I seem to be not the only one.

Lapko, yes… the band where we were waiting for. As I described in my review from Ankkarock, where this guys rocked as well, they make some alternative music. Quite different from what the supports were doing. That might be the reason   that not that much people liked them. They played a few songs from their latest album “young desire” but when the older songs are played, you see the audience giving more response. With a very active bassguitarist on the stage which loves to jump on his pedals and view the crowd from above and a singer with a beautiful emotional voice. They really have the audience with them. As final song, the play “Funeral and parties” Kind of a macabre title.   Although I feel the song in me. I feel like I am living in the song, because it pulls you in the story. I can’t get my eyes of the singer who brings it so well. When the final notes arrive, he hits the microphone on his chest and walks of the stage without looking back. The others follow him and only the keyboard is there to finish it. Then the last one disappears as well and the show is over.
