07-03-2009 Headphone

Supports: Underwater Sleeping Society; Venue: W2, Den Bosch (Netherlands)
By: Sabine van Gameren

Although for this evening three bands were scheduled, only two of them played. The third one had to cancel due to vocal problems. Because of this both other bands were playing a longer set.

The first band that entered the stage was the indie rock band named: Underwater Sleeping Society. The band is coming from Finland and just released their new album “The Dead Vegas
Quite some people gathered in W2 venue and by the time the band entered the stage it was almost filled. The band, which did not have their original guitarist with them, started off quite calm to build up some tension towards the end. The lightshow here brought a lot of extra atmosphere to the performance. As if not everyone was familiar with their music, most people were a bit distance, but seem to appreciate it more towards the end.

Headphone, a Belgian band which was headlining this evening, I considered quite boring. The band started off calm and it not really seem to progress into something better. the first couple of songs were similar and because the band built their selves in with their instruments it was a static performance. Their logo lighted in the background (a screen beanie with a headphone) looked a bit morbid to me and made me think of an art exhibition about second world war victims. Probably this is just my interpretation of their logo, but 1+1 is still 2 and counting the facts that I found their music quite boring and flat, their static performance and then the logo, you might understand that I left the guys after their sixth song.
