06-09-2011 VNV Nation

Venue: Messe Giessen (Germany)
By: Nina Mende

Tuesday night in Giessen. Almost sold out house in the convention center. I was a little late but right in time for VNV Nation. VNV Nation are a British/Irish electronic music band originally from Wexford, Ireland and London, United Kingdom and now based in Hamburg, Germany.

They combine elements of electro-industrial, trance, synthpop and electronic body music (EBM). The members are Ronan Harris and Mark Jackson. The “VNV” in the name stands for Victory, not Vengeance, in keeping with the group’s motto, “One should strive to achieve, not sit in bitter regret.” Foggy and darkish but with live drums and guitar as well as synthesizer and vocals VNV Nation shared their music with the audience. The fans loved each and every song, cheered out loud and danced their minds away. Constantly moving the audience had a great time, and so did the band. Ronan, the singer, was running up and down all the time, constantly moving and animating the audience, singing to them and playing with them. VNV Nation played old and new songs. Their set lasted for about two hours and they could have gone on for much longer. It was a wonderful and very peaceful show, it seemed like troubles in the world had stopped for a moment. VNV Nation is a great live band that got everybody to dance along and made it a great Tuesday night
