The Antlers is an indie-rock band formed in Brooklyn from the idea of their main composer Peter Silberman. Their debut and self-produced album “Uprooted” was released in 2006. Now their fourth release “Burst Apart” is out.
As announced by Peter Silberman, the follower of “Hospice” didn’t have the intention to follow the traces left by their previous release. Indeed, “Burst Apart” is different in a way where the actual band takes some more shape to leave aside the atmospheric side of the music. At least, this is what is hearable throughout the first half of the album. The songs in there hang in balance between post rock and dark music, almost vanishing into “Rolled Together”, that echoes some rather marked Sigur Ros influences. From there on the focus shifts back to the atmosphere, where the music is spiced with some random embellishments, like the chants of “Hounds” that perfectly come along with Peter’s outstanding vocals.
The general atmosphere of the album is rather melancholic, but still crafted with a noteworthy elegance and a deep communicative power. The final outcome is an interesting and inspired interpretation of post rock fraught with different effects and echoes the listener might hardly keep a straight face at.
