09-03-2011 Beatsteaks

Supports: Kraftklub; Venue: Jahrhunderthalle, Frankfurt (Germany)
By: Nina Mende

“Come down watch the whole thing explode!” That was the line which was stuck in my head as I was heading out for tonight’s show. Intuitionally I must have known that this line of the song “Cut Off The Top” will mean a whole lot more to everyone at the show afterwards! The atmosphere was exploding and the floor was shaking, almost like a strong earthquake! But let me start in the beginning:

Beatsteaks were playing at Jahrhunderthalle tonight, one of the bigger venues in Frankfurt, and it was packed! The audience was mixed and all had a good time, even before the first band! The first band was KraftKlub, a German hip hop / disco band. They shared their disco and hip hop beats with the audience for about half an hour. Dressed like total nerds and also moving around like them, they were very entertaining and the music was a lot of fun to listen to. A great way to get in the right mood for what was yet to come.

Now, it was time for Beatsteaks. Beatsteaks is a punk rock band from Berlin, Germany, formed in 1995. Throughout the years their fan base had grown a whole lot. And, very important to say, Beatsteaks fans are very loyal ones too! Currently they are touring with their seventh album „Boombox“ which was just recently released. Right the second the band entered the stage the ground was shaking because everyone had begun jumping! With happy faces and gestures of thank you and appreciation the Beatsteaks took their spots on stage ready to rock. And they did. Singing old and new songs, talking to the audience, joking around, dancing, doing funny dances and moves, it was a pleasure watching the guys. The audience loved it big time and cheered constantly. The fans danced, moshed, moved, clapped, sang and jumped around during the entire show, just as much as the band moved around on stage. During one song everyone began sitting down just to jump up again once the chorus set in. Unlike other shows literally everyone participated in such actions. Whether it was sitting down, clapping, singing, waving their arms or what ever else the fans or the Beatsteaks came up with – everyone followed. The lights were bright the sound was amazing and the band was in such a happy mood. Simply by watching them your heart was filled with joy and happiness. Simply amazing. The audience knew the new songs by heart just as well as they knew the old classics such as “Summer”, “Panic”, “Hand In Hand” and many more. During one song Arnim – the singer – did a somersault into the audience to crowd-surf a little before continuing to sing on stage. Peter – the guitar player – sang two songs and played piano in between. Simply amazing. Beatsteaks is one of the best live bands that definitely get every single one in the audience go along and get addicted to the music!
