Releasedate: 18 March 2022 Label: MooDDoom Records
DI’AUL is an Italian doom metal band. Ever since their inception in 2010, Di’Aul have strived to write heavy, catchy music underlaid with subtle complexities. Their sound can best be described as a mix of 70s rock songwriting and 90s metal groove! Their latest record “Abracamacabra” is out now.
Considering the band has been around since 2010, there is a certain vision and direction that they take with “Abracamacabra”. It is neither refreshing nor unique but hey, it doesn’t have to be. The doom metal fans as well as the longtime fans of this band will enjoy “Abracamacabra” for sure. The band also incorporates elements from grunge or 90s groove into their sound, adding another dimension. I personally enjoyed the second half of “Abracamacabra” more, that’s where things get slower, doomier and the riffs become more progressive.
Despite having enjoyed the album, I gotta admit that it did not capture the magic for me fully. Surely, the band does not aim to not bring something new to the table or to redefine the genre but I have expected that spark and I couldn’t feel it. On the other hand, “Abracamacabra” might be a great record to listen to live and just slowly headbang to. Either way, I think that doom fans out there might enjoy “Abracamacabra” so get it and give it a listen!
