Dirty Sound Magnet is a psychedelic rock band from Switzerland. Influenced as much by western psychedelia as by eastern mysticism, the power trio is bound to bring some fresh air to music lovers of the 21st century. Their latest album “DSM-III” is out now via Hummus Records.
“DSM-III” is all about blues and psychedelic rock with sprinkles of “creative rock”. It is very colorful and comes in different layers so it flows very easily. I imagined kaleidoscopes and colors while listening to “DSM-III” again and again and I am sure everyone’s experience will be different. There is an overall positive attitude about “DSM-III” with a nice depth that is connected to it but that does not leave you alone with your thoughts too much. It’s all about being in the moment!
Soundwise, the band is highly influenced by the 60s and 70s classics but their style is unique as they interpret this in their own style and bring their vision and ideas. Normally in psych rock albums, I focus on the riffs or melodies but I recommend the listeners to also pay attention to the lyrics as this is where the magic lies. That harmony between melodies and lyrics is wild and will lure you in, making you love “DSM-III” even more!
Speaking of the sound of the band, we cannot overlook the blues aspect of “DSM-III”. The second half of the album (especially songs like Mr. Robert and DSM-III) offers that ear candy and the ultimate blues experience. However, Meet The Shaman is my ultimate highlight as it contains all the elements that Dirty Sound Magnet has to offer – from the blues to the psychedelia.
“DSM-III” is quite the ride and one all you psych rock and blues fans will enjoy! Do not sleep on this one and go see the band live if and when you can!
