AARA – Triade I: EOS

Releasedate: 26-03-2021
Label: Debemur Morti

AARA is a formation from Switzerland that has been formed in 2018. They make Atmospheric Black Metal and are currently releasing album number three. It is called “Triade I: Eos” and is available now.

The band has already three albums on their name, so they are quite up to speed with releasing their material. Inspiration flow is obviously around and it brings a good portion of Black. Realizing that this formation is a duo makes me smile a bit more, they have a full sound with many layers and elements so it is interesting to see the dynamic of this duo brings forth such a full sound.

Up front you get some frantic drums, driving the chaos. Blasting it through the songs they don’t give you much time to catch your breath. The album is based on a Gothic novel and will be presented as a trilogy of which they give us the first part. The artwork gives a grasp of what you can expect atmospherically. Sinister darkness, a looming void that gets filled with horror and excitement. Aggression and extreme Black Metal are leading you in six tracks through part one.

Songs

Elements in “Nimmermehr” are adding a certain drama that makes this track stand out on the album. There are choir parts combined with melancholic pieces that are in contrast with the icy cold vocals that are following it up. On high tempo the song is changing back and forth. When the guitars are taking a more prominent spotlight you start to realize that this track is probably summarizing the qualities of this duo best. To be a multi instrumentalist is not always meaning one to be that great with each of them, but AARA seems to have it all balanced.

Last track on the release, “Effugium” is interesting as well. Halfway it gives you the impression the album is over, but they simply have a break in there, the cliffhanger and whether we have to see the final part of it to be a teaser for the next is what we will have to wait for, but if that is the case we can say it will be one to keep following, for you certainly feel that the story of this release has not ended yet and that AARA has much more to bring. Much welcome, because this is a truly interesting release to our conclusion.
