26-11-2010 Tiamat

Supports: Stoneman, Orden Ogan; Venue: Baroeg, Rotterdam (Netherlands)
By: Sabine van Gameren

An interesting night shows up in Baroeg. Friday night and people gathered in the area before the show starts. Tiamat is on the road and they brought two support: Stoneman and Orden Ogan.

StonemanThe Swiss guys of Stoneman were the first band this evening. They recently released their new album “Human Hater” (review) and on this album they showed that they are more aggressive than ever before. The guys start their show with some songs that the fans might have heard before, but furthermore focused on playing songs of their latest release. The audience seem to dig this aggressive side quite well and the band seem to score better than the other support act. “Suicide Is A Suicide” and “Zombie Zoo” got played. The last one mentioned is a song featuring Wednesday13 but since he did not join the tour, vocalist Mikki took that on him. Also they played the German song “Wer Ficken Will” while they tried to explain it to the audience. While Dutch people are not always in the mood for hearing German language, it’s a historical issue, no one seemed to be moved by this one, which seem to made the impression that hardly anyone speaks or understands it. The band continued in English which seemed to have a different effect on the crowd.
Overall the band seemed to have made a good impression, the band shows they have plenty of energy to put in their show.

Orden Ogan Orden Ogan are a German band. They play heavy metal, folk influenced and seem to have a handful of fans with them. Their show did not really stand out a lot, only little activity going on, the music is very basic and have all been done before, but then slightly better. A little more originality was expected and therefore the show seemed to be disappointing. The audience did not seem to be too impressed either. Many went back to the bar, others to keep their spots for the headliner. Often they asked the audience for participation, which only sporadically seemed to work, with some Dutch comments getting after them that does not indicate any sign of appreciation. Missed shot, this band.

Many years they have been around, Tiamat now released nine studio albums and various other releases, suddenly seeing the band go on tour in 2010. A nice surprise for the fans which made their way to the venue to see. The Swedes have chosen for a diverse set list. They went back in time, taking songs from the older albums like the 1994 “Wildhoney” as well as some of their most known songs of the 2003 album “Prey”.
During their show they go quite deep to bring the atmosphere of darkness and depression towards their fans. Songs like “Cain” are there to keep the audience quiet and let them listen carefully, while towards the end of the set the band comes with some harder songs that make the fans a bit wilder. The band closes with “Gaia” and when they look over to crowd for the very last time you can see the Swedes seemed satisfied with the show as well as the audience.
