The Finnish band The Winyls started in 2000. After they released “Rock Motors” in 2005 which you can also download from their page, they now released “Honey and Lime” at Hype Records.
The album has a great layout held in black and white. The pages with lyrics and writing are held in white with a black frame and the headlines are in cursive with a nice pattern in the background. On the last page of the booklet you can find a collage with pictures.
Since I know the last album, The Winyls are not new to me. But still had I forgotten how great they are. The music is very danceable and great, catchy melodies that get stuck in your head easily and make you at least tap along to the beat. The singer has a really great voice. And the new album is very suitable for radio and clubs. I guess you can put the somewhere between bands such as The Ark, The Hives and so on, The Winyls are definitely made for a big thing and I hope we will see them headlining festivals soon. But back to the album “Honey and Lime”:
“I Know” is a very danceable song, quite touchy as well with catchy melodies and riffs. “If You Ever” is a very thoughtful song, a little bit sad as well. Some of the backing vocals on the album are sung by females which makes the songs even more emotional. They also used some orchestra on the album, really nice to listen to. All songs have a great quality and you never get tired of listening to it.”You, Me & Rock’n’Roll” is a very great dance floor song sounding like it would be from the 80s, a gorgeous song. “Little We Can Do” is the ballad on the album, with orchestra and female vocals it is totally emotional, a quiet and slow song, really great!
All in all it is a gorgeous album and will be in my CD player for quite some time (until the next wonderful album comes up).
