Wiidakko is a very energetic band from Finland that plays alternative rock. I first got to know this band back in spring 2006 when their single “980 Ongelmaa” hit the charts in Finland.
Shortly after that I saw them live on stage and one of the things that I remember is the enormous energy that came off the stage. This can definitely also be heard when listening to their new CD “Asiat joita et voi kaskaan saavuttaa” which was released earlier this year.
Wiidakko was formed in the beginning of 2003 and presented their debut album in 2005 called “Uusi Jarjestys”. Everything really started for Wiidakko when their single “980 Ongelmaa” was picked up by the radio and and it entered the charts.
The first single of this CD was “Niin” what really sums up what Wiidakko is all about and what I had kept in mind. You cannot stand still on their music, which is very rhythmic with nice vocal lines. Singing in Finnish is one of the things that makes their music stand out; choosing their native language. While listening to their album which contains 12 tracks you realise that they have a style of their own, which might be a little hard to describe. It is the energy they create with the drums and guitar harmonies that makes it so special. “Vedenalainen” and “Ilotulitukset” are calmer songs, which shows that singer Markus is capable of doing a lot with his voice.
The melody lines are nice to listen to as well. This is a real spring album for me. One of those you listen to lying in the grass before you go to a party. It is happy, and if you are not I am sure it will get a smile on your face. It has a feel good mood over it.
