The Mercury Music prize winner of 2000 Badly Drawn Boy (Damon Gough in person) kept silent almost ten years and there is actually the second album by the artist.
Conceptually the record is kind of a revival diary of all the hopes, apologies and forgiveness’. Part of redemption if you like. BDB beat over some habit problems and as result you can listen to the intimate and sensitive material. Avoiding the psychological passages, we look closer at a pop album with 14 tracks.
The most brilliant electro dancing tune is the starter Banana Skin Shoes. If only other tracks will be the same. According to lyrics the main goal of self-being “super-super-supersize your soul”. Colours is divide and stargazing with many, oh, colours in lyrics and in music as well. It’s like to touch the rainbow. Losing some hopes caused Is This A Dream? Soap bubbles between the lines. And the last track to be mentioned is formally the last I’ll Do My Best. The typical pop tune which is full of regrets and hopes.
Resuming all the tracks it’s really hard to get a measurement for the album. In one hand, it’s simple and not original. On the other hand, it’s a fragile and desperate attempt to reconstitute the self, and to seek in the insane secret drama of a musician’s silence of misbehavior for years.
