26-10-2010 The Gaslight Anthem

Venue: E-werk, Cologne (Germany)
By: Nina Mende

The Gaslight Anthem is an American punk band from New Brunswick, New Jersey, consisting of Brian Fallon (lead vocals, guitar), Alex Rosamilia (guitar, backing vocals), Alex Levine (bass guitar, backing vocals) and Benny Horowitz (drums, percussion, tambourine). They released their first album “Sink or Swim” on XOXO Records in May 2007, and their second album “The ’59 Sound” on SideOneDummy Records in August 2008. The band’s third album “American Slang” was released on June 15, 2010.

Now, on their “American Slang” Tour they stopped by in Cologne to play the sold out E-Werk. A sold out Tuesday night at E-Werk with tons of Gaslight Anthem fans ready to be taken away by the soft music of the band. Heavily tattooed guys playing soft and emotional tunes seems odd at first- especially after hearing this band being claimed as punk – but it only makes this band even more special. The audience was mixed. You could find old punks as well as teenies and of course everything in between amongst the Gaslight Anthem fans at E-Werk tonight. The atmosphere in the venue was amazing and the audience went swaying and clapping along to almost all songs. Everyone seemed to know the lyrics and sang along. It was a beautiful evening that everyone enjoyed big time.
