Nobody is a Finnish one-man black metal project, created by Tuomas Kauppinen, who combines acoustic and fusion elements into his music. “Gospel of the Goat” is the brand new EP, out this month. Writing this review was quite the nice coincidence for me since I wanted to discover an acoustic black metal release for a while and so this one is a great beginning of 2020. Let’s dig deep.
“Gospel of the Goat” features a total of five songs and delivers the raw, dark and acoustic elements of black metal, which are in great harmony from beginning to the end. Unconventionally, there are no atmospheric beginnings or ‘spiritual’ passages but just straight-on black metal that is channeled quite well through the dark vocals and complemented perfectly with the acoustic guitars. This is a highlight I liked in this Nobody EP; the contrast of acoustic vs. raw makes the album flow from the beginning to the end and will surely attract the attention of the listener from the first song. On the other hand, there are no surprises, twists or unexpected elements so keep this in mind while listening to this release.
Overall, “Gospel of the Goat” is definitely recommended for the ones who like the unusual and authentic approach in their black metal as well as the ones who like the acoustic elements within this genre.
