10-08-2010 Papa Roach

Supports: Audrey Horne, Life of Agony; Venue: Schlachthof, Wiesbaden (Germany)
By: Nina Mende

Tonight was an awesome line up at Schlachthof in Wiesbaden: Audrey Horne, Life Of Agony and Papa Roach. Many people were already waiting outside the venue long time before doors opened. Some kids had even purchased the special VIP tickets Papa Roach always offers, with which you are able to see the sound check as well as taking a picture with the band. Many people wore Papa Roach merchandise, others Life Of Agony shirts. The audience was very mixed but you could tell the old school fans apart from the new ones.

The audience was filling up the venue very fast. The last tickets at the door sold out quite quick as well. It was crowded and heating up a lot, long before the last band entered the stage. But let me start in the beginning.

The Norwegians Audrey Horne rocked the audience first. Audrey Horne is a hard rock/post-grunge band from Bergen, Norway. The band took its name from Sherilyn Fenn’s character in the cult TV series Twin Peaks. Although some of the band’s members play or have previously played in black metal bands like Enslaved and Gorgoroth, Audrey Horne’s music is far removed from the black metal genre, and can be described as heavy and melodic hard rock, similar to bands like Faith No More, Alice in Chains and A Perfect Circle. The singer reminds of rockabillies with his style, but the music is much harder. With an awesome voice and a great performance Audrey Horney rocked the masses tonight in Wiesbaden and found many new fans. The music was thriving and catchy yet ass kicking. The band brought their message out to you and everybody followed along. The set was quite short but everybody had a blast. Audrey Horne is definitely worth the see.
Up next was Life Of Agony. Life of Agony is an alternative metal band from Brooklyn, New York. The band has been around for 21 years now even though they had a three year break in between. Somewhere between grunge and hard rock Life Of Agony made old and new fans more than happy. But you could tell that most people were not there because of Life Of Agony but because of Papa Roach nor knew many of their songs. Life Of Agony put up a great show though. There was bad light and a lot of fog on stage but Keith and the guys still made it unforgettable. Passionate and sometimes reminding a lot of Nirvana, they rocked their souls out but never forgot to talk to the people. Caring yet ass kicking Life Of Agony went through their set, way too short as I found, but they played for about an hour. So I guess it was ok for the rest, especially for those waiting for the last band to come on stage.
After a seemingly long change over the intro finally set in and made the audience go insane. Only a minute later the band stood on stage grinning and ready to give it all: Papa Roach. Papa Roach is an American rock band from Vacaville, California. Their first major-label release was the triple-platinum debut album Infest (2000). The band’s new live album, Time for Annihilation, will be released on August 31, 2010. Papa Roach has sold more than 10 million album copies worldwide, and are known for their hits “Last Resort”, “Scars”, “Forever”, and “Lifeline”, among others. It seemed like the entire venue was able to sing along to every word. Everybody jumped, moshed, rocked, danced and screamed along to the music. The band rocked on stage and got everybody sweaty as hell. Jacoby was running up and down the stage as well as the photo pit and even went straight across the audience during one song – it took him an entire song to get through. Nobody stood still not even for a single second. The sweat was running and it was getting hotter. The band had a blast performing and everybody else had a blast watching. Papa Roach played old and new songs including their newest single “Kick In The Teeth” from their upcoming album “Time For Annihilation”. They even played an encore and made us crave for more. All hooked on the awesome music they left us drooling and sweating. Time to get more. Papa Roach will play more European shows as well as some US shows in fall, and the new album will be out on August 31st. Go get and see you at the shows!
