Dorminn is a shamanic folk ambient one man band from France. The sound and style of the band consists of acoustic black metal as well as inspirations from cults and traditions from all around the world. The debut album “Dorminn” was entirely recorded on an old tape recorder REMCO S4000R from the 70s and also features a cover song of Moëvöt.
“Dorminn” offers us a dark and organic shaman folk sound. Overall, instruments are rather more in the spotlight, which is a great aspect and leaves the listener with their thoughts and gives a lot of space for interpretation. However, there are also some nice and dark twists like the use of oriental instruments and most importantly, the ‘black metal’ atmosphere reflected very well through vocals, such as in the song “II”. This also makes the album more eclectic; in the beginning with “I”, the listener will be faced with a rather folk-ish atmosphere but as the album progresses, the darkness takes over. So these different elements combined with the shaman folk sound will take the listener to different places. The album is also very well produced, so the listener will get to hear and feel each instrument and element.
“Dorminn” is definitely recommended to the lovers of dark folk/neo-ambient but also for the ones who just want to get away and clear their heads. I also recommend that you listen to this album on some good quality headphones in the total darkness and possibly in the nature to get the full experience.
