11-04-2010 Donots

Supports: Royala Public; Venue: Batschkapp, Frankfurt (Germany)
By: Nina Mende

Back from Berlin and straight to the Batschkapp in Frankfurt. It felt like coming home because of the warm welcome at the door. It was a sold out show. At the door there was a charity box where tonight’s headliner collected money to support “Music Therapy For Children”. The Batschkapp was crowded and everybody was waiting for the Donots to enter the stage. There was mostly teenagers in the crowd and only girls in the front row. Many kids wore band shirts.

Before the Donots went on stage there was an opening act to warm up the audience first though. Royal Republic had the honor to do so. Royal Republic is a Swedish rock band formed in Malmö, Sweden in late 2007. The band consists of guitarist/lead singer Adam Grahn, guitarist Hannes Irengård, bass guitarist Jonas Almén and drummer Per Andreasson. Their music was thriving rock and roll, almost rockabilly and definitely got everybody in the venue going along. The guys did not stand still for a second on stage, neither did anybody in the audience. The singer talked quite a lot with the audience. The catchy music spread energy and happiness throughout the Batschkapp. Royal Republic were an awesome band and I was shocked that I never heard of them before. They have huge potential, at least as much as The Hives or Mando Diao do. The Swedes rocked the venue big time. Too bad they only had about 30 minutes.

Up next was Donots. Founded in 1993 in Germany they rocked ever since. They just released their latest studio album “The Long Way Home”. Tonight they stopped by in Frankfurt to say hi to their fans and rock with them. The kids were screaming out loud, already during the slow intro song they danced like crazy. So did the band on stage. The guitar and bass players as well as the singer jumped around on stage, they simply couldn’t stay away from the monitors and kept stepping and jumping onto them. The audience went wild, everyone was jumping around like hell and the air in the venue heated up within a few songs. Nobody would leave this venue without having sweat their guts out. The Donots rocked through old and new songs, talked with their fans in between each song and simply had a great time. Slow and fast songs, danceable and jump-able songs, they had it all. The band gave their everything and you could tell they were having a blast. What a great night.
