Mortemia is the new project of Morten Veland from Noway. You might have come across his name before as he is not unknown in the metal and gothic scene for years. He started his musical career with Tristania back in 1995 and later formed Sirenia in 2001. Now he is presenting his own project showing his interest for song writing and creating a darker and more melancholic atmosphere.
For this project Morten clearly shows that the dramatic, bombastic and symphonic elements are still very important in his music. He has the intention with this album to create a musical concept which is based on balanced mixture of metal and classical music, which shines thought due to the classical orchestrations in his work. Also for this album he worked with a France choir and decided to leave out any clean vocals (apart from the choir) and any female lead vocals as he clearly wanted to make a distinction between his other bands and this project. On this album the interaction between Morten Veland’s growls and the sound of the orchestra and choir is what matters.
“Misere Mortem” is Mortemia’s debut where Morten is the sole producer, he took care of every aspect such as mixing and mastering his own album. The only additional contribution is from the French choir. The album is not bringing new aspects as it sounds pretty much like it could be a Sirenia album without the female vocalist. This might be for some something very pleasant. Morten created with this project Mortemia a very nice project, the dark atmosphere works, everything sounds well mixed and he presents a very good album.
