Italian sludge/doom band Hell Obelisco released their latest record “Swamp Wizard Rises” recently. Upon reviewing the record, some aspects caught my attention and so I got curious and decided to ask a few questions to the guys.

One detail was haunting me since I got to listen to the album and see the line-up: What is the reason for the titles of the songs and album to have only 3 words formula? What was your idea?
The truth? it came naturally! no projects behind it: we were composing a lot of lyrics and titles with 3 words and at the end it was super cool so we decided to keep them.
Maybe we’ll continue this “tradition” also for the second album, we really like it!

Out of all types of metal, why sludge? What are the influences?
Sludge is a music genre that is very hard to play because it takes people with attitude and balls and is not very easy to find them in the music scene: the four of us together is a little miracle and a dream come true, so it was like a challenge when we decided to form the band. We love bands like COC, Transport League, Tool, Motley Crue and we think everything is giving us a cool influence

Where is your favorite place to play? What is the coolest concert you recall? (honestly, I am dreaming to see you playing while I am in a swimming pool with a mojito or beer in my hand).
Our favorite place to play is everywhere! We love to play live and fortunately we are receiving a lot of requests, I personally remember with a great pleasure the gigs we’ve done with Transport League and Okkultokrati because they were super cool people. Mojito? no man, it’s for babies, drink beer!

Are you getting political? Any particular idea to follow with your music?
We have our own ideas but we keep them outside music, we live in a very fucked up politically shit country and a lot of the anger we put in the music comes directly from the actual situation, unfortunately.

What are your plans next? Much material left out ready for another album soon?
Our plan is to play a lot of gigs everywhere but we have some ideas for new tracks and we’ll start to work on them very soon. With titles of 3 words of course…

Special thanks to Ms. Francone and Hell Obelisco.
