24-02-2010 Volbeat

Supports: The Bulletmonks; Venue: 013, Tilburg (The Netherlands)
By: Elvira Visser

The first band this Wednesday evening kept the audience a little waiting. Later than announced they presented themselves on stage. But as soon as the first snare was hit….they were ready to explode.

This German band was founded back in 2001 when two brothers from Melbourne, G.I. son Spreace Jackson, and a half French drummer get together the band is at its beginnings. Tonight they had to task to get the audience ready, however it seemed the audience did not really needed a cheer up. Although it took a couple of tracks before the audience was cheering and clapping their hands for the Bullet Monks. They play very nice energetic Rock ‘n’ Roll with a touch of heavy metal. A style the band likes to call themselves: Mosh ‘n’Roll. They only got a hand full to mosh, but their music was played very convincing. They like being on stage. They joke around and are not leaving much space for talking, they rather play. The groovy bass line, energy and the catchy choruses makes their music very nice. A very good support act, one that is not just a support act but they really contributed to the evening. You should check this band out!

The gig from Volbeat started of a little bit different than normal. Some guys carried frontman Poulsen on the stage and put him on the ground near his microphone. This was because last time around Poulsen collapsed after singing a few songs and the gig was cancelled. Well entering the stage like this, in front of a crowed that had to travel for the second time to see this band, already sets the tone and atmosphere. The audience cheered and did not really stop. Every song was sung along and cheered for. The band seemed at his best, very powerful and they played very tight. Last time I had seen them the sound was not that good but this time it sounded precise the way it should. Full and a bit raw combined with their nice Rockabilly influences. The band gave their all, not sure if this was because it was their second time in front of this audience or the fact that they were recording their performance. It really does not matter because they rocked, and they rocked hard. It seems that every one in the crowd sings along and I hear the people around me singing with happy faces, enjoying this moment, this gig. This continued to the end of their performance. After their encore it seems that both band and audience is content with this show. The guys of Volbeat really impressed all of us and showed why they are getting more fame every day. They simply rocked this evening!
