Supports: The Jade, Lines of Leaving; Venue: Klubi Tampere (Finland)
By: Sabine van Gameren
Klubi was still quite empty when Lines of Leaving, the first band of this evening, started. Recently they released an album called “Battle for humanity”. Within a few minutes this band reminds me of System of a Down. They have the typical way of writing music and the vocalist tries to sing at the same way as the singer of SOAD. Though, I would not call them a rip off nor a copy cat, but it is clear the band gets their influences from SOAD. On stage, it was quite boring since I expected the band to make some more use of the beautiful stage of Klubi. Now I felt like I could have put on their cd as well and do something else. The action came at the end of their performance when they brought friends onstage. The singer of the band Renoise was there and he did a song with them. With them onstage the band immediately showed some more enthusiasm and their guest musicians were even dancing on the stage. Overall, I would say that the band is coming up, but I hope they will do some more stage action, to bring the powerful songs they have more to reality.
Second band tonight is the Helsinki based band The Jade. I have seen the band before and now I was happy to see them here in Tampere. I was nicely surprised by hearing some new songs and seeing a new look. As usual, singer Wille Rosen takes over the stage easily. Where I mentioned by Lines of Leaving a little bit boring stage act, there is nothing else to mention here than the active stage act from this band. Even though, most of the audience was at quite a distance from the stage, they could not escape from being seen by the band. I had to get used to the new songs, but of course the band also played it’s success songs “King’s Cross” “Drowned” and “Roses are Burning”.
Last band is Parasite City. I seem to run into this band every now and then and usually I do not mind it at all, since the band makes good live shows as it is a fact. And so this night. The band played not very long though, which disappointed me in a way. They brought some audience as well, so I think I was not the only one. But as a positive thing, I can say that I will probably run into this band again soon. They already have quite some gigs scheduled for 2008. So if you have a chance, I suggest you check them out. Just as the other two bands of this evening, they play at Ravintola Waiski in Helsinki on the 29th of December. If you are around, why not come to see these bands?!
