Supports: Blue Mountain; Venue: Tivoli Oudegracht, Utrecht (The Netherlands)

The first band that would play tonight was having a double set tonight. Blue Mountain was besides the support act also backing up headliner Dayna Kurtz.
Blue Mountain is a band from Mississippi, USA making Americana/folk music. That the band is coming from Mississippi has not stayed unnoticed for any visitor. The band mentioned it several times in their songs during the set. The latest record of this band seems to be from 2008 but they nevertheless were able to play a varied set with songs that sometimes are closer to country and sometimes meet the Americana more. Towards the end of the set they invited Dayna Kurtz on stage to sing and play along with them for a couple of songs. The band entertained the audience, but most of the people seemed to be more interested to see Dayna’s performance. |
By the time that Dayna entered the stage to play her set the venue was pretty much filled. The singer-songwriter from New York, USA started with playing songs of her latest album called “American Standard”. In between the songs she often took a lot of time to talk to the audience and she joked that she misnamed her album, because people though it was about standards. Some songs were played on electric guitar, some with an acoustic one. Dayna also did a song a capella. When someone in the audience asked to play “Amsterdam Crown” she actually went into that and performed the song later on. The atmosphere during the set was quite intimate. Some people grabbed a chair and watched it like they were enjoying it from their living room and others just stood there giving their fullest attention. When the show ended, people left satisfied. |
