[schema type=”review” name=”The Corona Lantern – Consuming The Tempest” description=”Label: Seabeast Production” author=”Sabine van Gameren” pubdate=”2016-03-17″ ]The Corona Lantern is a formation from Prague that makes a combination of Sludge and Doom. The band formed in 2014 and now comes with a debut full length album called “Consuming The Tempest”.
“Consuming The Tempest” is an album that is less heavy and thick than you may have expected at first. The band tends more to Doom rather than the Sludge which gives them a certain melancholy that sort of makes it a bit more accessible. Lovely melodies coming in make the whole a bit dreamy even, giving reference to diverse Northern bands like Barren Earth for example.
If you look at the aspects that set this band apart you come down to the vocals. They are not like the stereotype, in the way all is layered and put together. They give the band a face of their own and do this in such a way that you rarely see from a band coming with a debut album. Whether you like the rest of the effects used in their sound may be in debate, for some it may be a bit too much but it does bring a great deal of the atmosphere to strength.
Where the band could improve is perhaps in the production, it is all kept quite raw and with just a bit more polishing all could be accented a bit better, but that is just a minor thing that comes to notice. “Consuming The Tempest” is a fine release and sets a promise for whatever is next. Keep your eyes on!
