Supports: Valerius; Venue: Bibelot, Dordrecht (Netherlands)

The first band to open this evening is Valerius, a band that is named after Valeriusplein in Amsterdam. Not so long ago it was criticized as a band with serious talent by radio station 3FM. I did listen to that radio station but had never heard of this band before tonight. I must say this is a good band. The singer has a nice voice, and they produce nice sweet groovy tracks. I think the music sounds really good in the summer in a park, sun and people meeting up together with these nice tunes. The music makes me happy and is just easy to listen to, just nice tracks, nothing too complicated. As the band say themselves the band is up coming and I think if they keep doing what they are doing they should play some more beautiful songs to people. The Dutch band has “She Doesn’t Know” as their first official single on the radio and TMF, a Dutch music channel, is supporting them as well.
Boris….well I knew this guy from the second version of the Dutch popstars shows. He won the show I guess and released two records. I had not heard much of him after the shows but now I think he is back to show all the people why he won the show. Simply because he is a good artist, and with this new CD he has gathered some great people around him to produce a very good funky sound with sometimes a raw edge. What I liked most about his performance this evening that he really plays with the whole band. It is not him with a band, but them together who create the soul and the magic. What they do good is knowing how to play some more old soul-like sounding songs and then the next moment there is a lot more funk put into a more modern sound. To play some more blues like there is this amazing guitarist Marcus Machado and bass player Leon Taihuttu. Clearly I see a man on stage with talent and I think the few years his career is coming off the ground he has developed himself and now does something he really enjoys together with his band. I enjoyed myself listening and watching them on stage. Where I thought he would be kind of dull he showed he can entertain in a way that suits the music style. This was a very nice performance.
