Interview: Fear of Domination
By: Sabine van Gameren
It is a tradition by now, catching up with Fear of Domination at their Metalorgy event. We spoke with them last year about their, by then, upcoming release but it was only last November that it actually came out. Read more about this here:
Last year October the band was telling us a lot about their new album. By then it did not have a name yet, or as we all concluded ‘Topsecret’. Right now ‘Create.Control. Exterminate’ is out, but it did not come easy for the band. It seems like there were plenty problems on their way. “It was a very long journey, and maybe not the easiest one”, vocalist Saku Solin tells. The album got delayed for almost a year and everyone agrees it was about time for the album to be revealed to the fans now. The album got postponed for at least three times they tell. Also joining in this interview is the bands manager Matti Remes, which has a lot to say about what happened. “There were some problems with the production” he starts and while everyone seem to show they feel a passionate anger of what has been going on Matti goes on: “At the end I had to take all the material away from the original place.” He started working with the band about half a year ago he told and seem very enthusiastic about them. |
It is not like they have not been patient enough as the band had their release party at 28 September already. And Matti explains that right at that moment he decided to take the material into their own hands. “I actually had to stand in front of all those people, at our album release party and tell them I don’t have it yet. It was embarrassing, I was on the stage saying to the people ‘In two weeks I’ll give you the date’”
Saku likes to add: “It did cost a lot of yelling and exchange of emails. Violence and blackmail.”
Luckily they could keep the promise made to the audience back then.
While they look back onto it, there seem to be also some positive points to all what has happened. Vesa Ahlroth, drummer of the band which introduced himself as a new member last year/interview tells us they did some new recordings of drums after they got their material into their own hands. “We recorded drums for ‘We’ll Fall Apart’, which was originally electronic drums and ‘New World’ was recorded by their older drummer”.
But after a road with loads of bumps they made till the actual release of the album. In the end it seem to go quite well and they all seem to look forward rather than sticking with what has had happened. “We also have a new title: Most positive industrial metal band from Finland” Jan Erik Kari, guitarist of the band, tells and they throw in some jokes to prove their statement.
With the album out now, it is about time to find out what comes up for these Finns. Seem quite some is in planning but not all can be spoken off. The band tells that they recorded a video clip for one of the songs, but their manager stops them to tell what song it is. “It’s a full surprise”, we get to hear and that is what we have to do with for now. Also on the plans of going outside of Finland we don’t get to hear much, but a date abroad is coming as everyone answered right away with “Next year” when being asked.
