Back in Helsinki, this time for Valentines Day. The show I went to was called “My Bloody Valentine” with three bands playing. As part of the Finnish Metal Expo which was going on in town, you could find quite some foreigners there as well. Although there were more events going on in Helsinki that night Semifinal was quite crowded.

First band of the night was Bloodpit. Bloodpit is a Finnish rock band founded in 1994. In the past two years the band first split up, then decided to continue with another singer though. To the new singer Antti there also joined a second guitar player. The five guys seemed squished on this small stage and did not have much room to jump around or move a lot. Aleksi (bass) still tried to do so though. The band seemed to enjoy there performance, at least the audience did big time. Everybody cheered, danced and sang along to the old and new songs of Bloodpit. Unfortunately the band did not get to play very long.

The second band was called Lovegrapes. Founded in 1998 they began with covers and finally began with their own stuff in 2004. As little as you can find about them in the internet, as little did everybody know about this band. Therefore it was quite slow and unexciting as well as they performed on stage. Several people went out to smoke during their performance or went to get some drinks. The dance floor seemed quite empty and lame. The band didn’t seem to do much about it either, their music was slow and more like background music than a band’s performance. But I also had people talking to me quite a lot during Lovegrape’s performance, so I might have missed out on something

Last band with about 30 minutes delay was Vanity Beach. Not as good as the last time but still great they rocked the tiny stage at Semifinal. The band seemed complete just like last time which makes the performance much better as well. The guys were doing their thing on stage. J (singer) moved around as usual and performed with passion. They played hits like “Bitch In A Bodybag”, “Batcave” and “Garden of Cruelty” but as well quite some new songs. Everybody enjoyed their show but thought it was too short as well. Vanity Beach are a great live band and always worth seeing. I hope the new album will come soon.
