Mork is a Norwegian project by Thomas Eriksen that makes Black Metal. It was started in 2004 and now, twenty year later, album number seven sees light. It is called “Syv” and it is available now.
When it comes to Mork, I always appreciated the way Eriksen chooses to combine a modern sound with a traditional feel. This album is doing lots of this also, something to nice from the first spin. The album opener is ready to set the tone for this. A haunting sounds is introducing you to proper collection of blackness. Leveling up on the melodic parts at “Med døden til følge” this release gets something more warming even. All in the right balance, not going to crazy with it, but surely a track that sticks in mind easily. When towards the end you start to hear more strings coming into the songs, you realize that this release is something that rises above what we heard before. And subtle but original way to add to the sound. “Til Syvende Og Sist” becomes somewhat cinematic by this and yet it all makes sense in relation to the earlier songs. It suits very well.
The albums closer “Omme” is much more minimalistic. An acoustic feel, Folkish and with calm vocals telling you a tale. If you have like the previous albums of Mork, we can easily see you LOVE this one. Thomas has created an absolutely stunning album with “Syv”
