Eli Hurts – Ouch, Eli Hurts

Releasedate: 14. April 2023
Label: UNFD

The LA based Eli Hurts has now released their debut album “Ouch, Eli Hurts”. However, he is not new to the business. Previous to Eli Hurts, he has toured the world with a band called Courtship. Then his life was turned upside down and he had to find himself again. Finally, with Eli Hurts and the debut release “Ouch, Eli Hurts”, Eli made a dream come true. Ten songs and and twenty-eight minutes give you an insight into his mind.

The album begins with “Hot Shit”, a seemingly silly song, melody wise and lyrics wise, but the entire album seems like a parody to Eli himself and to his generation. Conversely, each song carries a certain amount of depth and seriousness. Altogether, the arrangements consist of a mash-up between alternative rock, pop, synth music, punk and emo. Depending on how heavy each of the parts weighs, it sets the mood of the song. With lyrics that are easily to relate to and the melodies are catchy. Ultimately, it is up to you, whether to listen closely to each song or let the music fade in with the background, as the arrangements are smooth and not pulling your attention forcefully.

The choruses are catchy and will get stuck in your mind. Some lines will put a smile to your face, while others add a frown. Certainly, each song is absolutely worth listening to closely and the music is one to explore, as the album includes songs for each mood and moment.

Eli Hurts is a great and refreshing music project. “Ouch, Eli Hurts” reflects with a lot of humor and self-irony, and yet knows how to touch delicate topics with a certain amount of seriousness to get his point across. “Ouch, Eli Hurts” might seem comparatively short with its twenty-eight minutes of play time, but surprisingly the music and the topics each song talks about, will resonate with you for quite a while after the album has ended. Check it out!
