Jord is a Swedish musician named Jörgen Ström which has played in various bands through the years. Under the name of Jord he brings us now Atmospheric Black Metal and a debut album named called “Sol”.
“Sol” opens with a melodic feel. At first, a light sound that leads you into the album. The atmosphere is progressing during the tracklist, more intense moments are to be found for example in “Genom Skog & Hav” where the instruments as well as the vocals are having a more vehement approach. Generally the sound, as well as the atmosphere reminded me a bit to Novembre for its combining a variety of influences. It is straying away a bit from the utter cliché.
Halfway the track list you come across “Mother’s Way”, a track that creates a bit of a breaking point in the album. Next it is followed by “Inget Liv Utan Dig” there is an intensity growing and perhaps the highlight of the album to be found.
The last song “Blad & Rot” is perhaps the wildest one to be found on “Sol” but seem to summarize the whole album best. To be specific, it is here where the diverse elements come together most nicely.
Altogether “Sol” has a familiar sound but with a twist of Jord, an identity of its own that makes it a bit more unique. It is an album that resembles a melancholic feel, breeze of nature and passion for freedom of life. A perfect suit for the early spring.
