Intro
Holy Roller Baby is an American band. Hailing from Dallas, Texas, the band was founded in 2017 and they describe their style as ‘rock that rolls with primitive swagger’. The latest full-length is called “Frenzy” and it is out now.
Review
“Frenzy” consists of eleven songs and brings us the true rock’n’roll spirit! It is not harsh or ‘metal’ but quite organic. As a matter of fact, the description ‘primitive swagger’ explains it all! The music comes from the heart and contains strong riffs, forming the highlight of the record, as well as dedicated vocals. The overall atmosphere is rather chill and you will feel like you are in a rock bar, enjoying a live show of these guys. The songs flow and it feels like everything was recorded in an instant. So, the album definitely brings that nostalgia of the 70s with the production being simplistic and not overdone, which is a big strength of this release.
“Frenzy” comes with quite a few highlights and one of them is definitely Blue Devil Inn. This song felt like a soundtrack of a TV show and for me, this along with Ravings At Your Window, are rather more upbeat compared to the rest of the songs, Blue Devil Inn also had some sort of sinister melodies, which I loved! A nice contrast was Paper Tigers, which is more or less an interlude and totally brought me back to the desert where I found myself riding into the sunset….. just beautiful and also represents the spirit of the band and their style!
Conclusion
In general, I recommend “Frenzy” to anyone who wants to feel that rock’n’roll and the nostalgia! Depending on your taste, some songs will stand out more than others so you might find yourself returning to certain pieces rather than listening to the Holy Roller Baby album from the beginning to the end. Either way, you will enjoy this one a lot!
