Eivør Pálsdóttir, known professionally as Eivør, is a Faroese singer-songwriter with a distinctive voice and a wide range of interests in various music genres including rock, jazz, folk, pop, and European classical music. “Segl” is the new release and includes co-production from Lana Del Rey collaborator Dan Heath, and featuring an appearance from Ásgeir.
“Segl” is all about the beautiful harmony of different elements and emotions. Eivør’s sincere and heartwarming vocals form the highlight of the record. In addition, the familiar elements such as trip-hop and electronica as well as the smooth orchestration offer a dynamic and versatile bundle of emotions, captivating you in an instant. The overall tempo is slow and soothing. Nothing is forced but each song flows easily.
With each listen, “Segl” gets more interesting and so some songs stand out more than others. For me, the album got way more interesting after the second half. This City offers a nice twist with a rather upbeat tempo compared to other songs, taking us to that big city vibe. The electronic beats invite you to dance from where you stand or sit! On the other hand, for the ones craving for that ‘back to the roots’ feeling, I can definitely recommend Stirdur Saknur; here I feel that perfect combo of Eivør’s folk-ish roots and that modern refreshing style she delivers. This song also features a surprise guest whose vocals I recognized in an instant: Einar Selvik, which most of you know from Wardruna… What a delight for the ears and the soul!
Modern, versatile and refreshing with a touch of nature… “Segl” is all about that change and stepping outside of our comfort zone. I recommend this album to anyone who enjoys some good quality music regardless of which genre you listen to. Get it and welcome that change!
