Hellhookah – The Curse

Releasedate: 2020

Hellhookah are a Lithuanian doom metal duo formed in 2012 by the couple of Arnas and Gintarė. The band is currently releasing their second album called “The Curse”.

Doom, but combined with a bit of Black Sabbath, classic rock feel. One thing that comes to mind when listening to this release is that it would be a fine one to hear on a summerfestival. Late afternoon, boozy, sunny summer metal feelings. Guitars guiding you through the song, but straight in balance with drums. They manage to keep it exciting, you keep on listening without feeling it is a repeated trick. They have a certain easy into their music which makes it easy to listen to.

Lyrically the band is going in different directions. Some songs seem to be taken from life experience some seem more political buy in the end it does come together well. Whether it is a song called “Supremacy” which seems so on the trend of today’s talk of the day or “Dreams and Passions” which are addressing people generally, the band can easily connect with their audience.

“The Curse” is an album of a band that should be touring extensively. The current situation is not up for it, but it surely is how Hellhookah will convince many of their qualities. It’s a fine album that has a nostalgic touch but is relevant today just as well.
