21-03-2008 Hybrid Children

Venue: Botta, Helsinki (Finland)
By: Nina Mende

So this time I was the one changing my mind on short notice. Tonight I decided not to go to Uniklubi at Red Onion in Vantaa, but went to see Hybrid Children at Botta in Helsinki. They just returned from their tour in Russia and played a free gig at Botta.

Hybrid Children was formed in 1991 by Jasse (voc/guitar), Kelly (drums/voc), TV (guitar), and Jasse’s cousin Jarno (bass). Soon they released in quick succession three 7″ EP’s through independent Alternative Action Records and eventually signing to Poko Rekords’ sub label Gaga Goodies in 1992. They have been around since then rocking everywhere. The band went trough ups and downs but that only made them stronger. Hybrid Children is now recording their 7th full length album “Fight As One” which is going to be out this spring.

The gig room is above a restaurant, a really neat place. The room is decorated with old paintings and great light. It looks a little bit classy. The venue was filling up quite quickly and was very crowded in the end. Hybrid Children started playing after midnight and the audience was cheering big time and dancing a lot as they began. Jasse was talking much with the audience and was telling that they just returned from Russia, are all a little bit sick and a lot more. But despite the fact they were all sick, they were doing a great show and rocking Botta. Hybrid Children played for about an hour and played old songs as well as new songs. Almost everybody could sing along to every word and was having a great time. Hybrid Children is one of the longest existing bands in Helsinki, a fact that you could tell by watching the audience. The age of the audience was quite wide ranged. The great interaction between audience and band made the show even better. After a little more than an hour it was over. A great night in a gorgeous venue. And a nice welcome back in Helsinki.
