Eric Young
By: Nina Mende
Eric Young, drummer of Crashdiet, took time to answer our questions!
How did the band get started?
“Dave started the band back in 2000… had some troubles with members and finally
in 2003 he found us, Martin Peter and me.”
How did all the band members meet? Where did you meet the new singer?
“I knew dave since about 2002… then he called me in 2003 and asked if I wanted
to bang sum drums in his band.. so i showed up for rehearsal and it was decided
pretty much from that moment on… Peter and Martin knew each other from a previous
band. Peter met Dave at a ONKEL KONKEL concert and Dave asked if he wanted to
join CRASHDÏET since he shared the same interest of standing in front row
naked peeing on the band playing…”
When we want to get to know you, we want to know more about your personality. If you would be an animal, what animal would you be, and why do you think this animal matches your personality?
“I would be a turtle since im helpless when lying on my back”
Where do you get inspiration from when writing songs?
“Satan…haha no but Kiss, Nirvana, Hardline, Ozzy, life, lots of stuff really…”
Are you still nervous before the shows? What do you do to calm down?
“Yeah some times more than other, a shot or two of Jägermeister usually
does the trick…”
Do you still remember the first time you were on stage? How was it? And how do you feel now?
“I was pretty drunk so I guess I felt quite drunk I suppose, but its probably
the same today, You get excited, the adrenaline starts to rush just as the intro
start…”
With having so many international fans around, do you still have contact with fans who already know you from the start?
“Yeah, we keep contact with our fans through our forum, and of course on gigs…”
Do you have some funny backstage stories to share with us?
“Well one time when we arrived to Luzern, Switzerland to do a gig… I went backstage
to get some catering, and found a nicely decorated plate with pineapple, some
cheese, some ham and a big pile of shit. It turned out it was Adde from Hardcore
who had already been quick in to the catering and had some fun… we got naked
and drunk together later that night and snorted sugar out of Peters ass so we
all just laughed about it…”
A question you probably get to hear quite often: What made you get back together and continue?
“The urge to play good music, especially together with Martin and Peter since
they are like my brothers now…the lepard family was a big support and last
but not least of course the fact that the fans were really supportive of us
going on… basically lots of stuff…”
Where would you like to see your band in the future, let’s say in five years?
Any dreams or hopes?
“Well, the dream would be to play maybe 4000-5000 arena’s all around the world,
then gradually work ourselves up from there… if we would be playing bigger
venues by 5 years from now I would fear it would fade out as quick…”
Would you like to see yourself playing stadium gigs, like Metallica does?
“Of course if we were asked to do it, and knew there would be an interest from
the fans, anytime man!”
When thinking of the future, is there anyone you want to collaborate or tour
with? Is there any particular producer, singer, band??
“Well it would be awesome to play some arena gigs with KISS!”
With whom was it the most fun working with so far?
“I’d say everyone weve worked with this far concerning music has been a blast!”
How would you define “success”? When are you satisfied? And how do
you handle it? What keeps you down to earth? (because you are)
“Well, success for me I guess, if I get mails from people saying that we are
doing something that is changing their lives, in positive way of course… and
if I could just live off the music, and continue to give the world what I think
it needs! I would handle it how I see fit I guess, I’m confident that I will
take it the right way. What keeps me down to earth I guess it’s just to keep
cool, and never forget that without fans you don’t get anywhere!”
Besides Crashdiet, does anyone of you have other bands or side projects?
“Our singer Olli sings in a band called Reckless Love”
Do you have any idols?
“Yeah of course, Vinnie Paul, Jeff Porcaro and mom”
Is there a country/city/club you prefer playing at or where it’s the most fun?
“Stockholm I guess… always a tremendous response and we always have a kick
ass time here…”
How do the audiences differ from place to place? Any special stories you would like to share with us?
“Well, actually I haven’t really noticed any major difference yet… I only see
the front row and they always seem to bang their heads like there was no tomorrow”
Anything else you would like to tell our readers or us?
“Hope to see u soon on tour! Kick some ass…. Over n Out from CRASHDIET”
