IRonica is a Finnish metal band which is already rocking from 1999 on. Another
female fronted metal band, but this one is quite different as they claim on
their own website. Now, that is not surprising, since every band seems to tell
us this, but this time there really is a difference. The music is melodic, but
the vocal style is quite aggressive. From clean vocals to screams, all done
by the ultimate rock chick Elina Iron who joined the band in 2006.
Although the band exists already for 8 years, their success started growing this
year when they signed a record deal with Emi/poko rekords. They released the
second song on the album “All That I Drain” as a single which made
it to the third place in the Finnish single charts. The next single is “Make
Me Whole Again” and with this choice they took again one of the strongest
songs of the album.
You can hear power metal influences through the whole album. Fast, melodic
guitar riffs are driving the songs to the highest level. Influences of bands
like Helloween and Symphony X can be heard.
Overall the album really sounds different, just as they promised. Sometimes
I might think that some songs are a little bit too much of the same, but when
the released singles or the song “Fragile, Devoted, Disgraced” is
playing, you realize the band reached its highest level so far here.
