Label: Ripple Music
The heavy attributed and stoner-spirited Fireball Ministry wave from LA to demonstrate their re-skills. The band, kind of genre’s mastodon, debuted in 1999. Being part of Ripple Music’s “Beneath The Desert Floor” reissue series, The Second Great Awakening is vinyl version of 2003 original release. The fact is, it’s not the only re-make. If current record is the tenth chapter, then Their Rock Is Not Our Rock (2005) was the fourth chapter of series.
What we missed in 20 years? Well, 11 tracks plus the bonus in the nerve of genre. Buckle up, here the sample of classic (and desert) rock. The dozen tracks as wholesome on bass-line and almost half is on point. Skipping the first quarter, start with “Master of None”, driving and whirring. Then “Flatline” spins melody back and forward. Hard rock and minor tonality fit “In the Mourning”. My personal fav, not typical melodic “Maidens of Venus” or it’s just what I deserve for the listening to rest of material. Additional track “Dark Descend” has different intentions but in the line of the event and especially for Judgement Day.
Is there the great awakening in history or just this year? Only as part of hauntology releases. Next time, Fireball Ministry would drop something new.
