From June 5 to 7, the city of Maastricht once again turns into a paradise for metalheads when South of Heaven opens its gates for three days of riffs, beers, community and pure Burgundian hospitality. Set against the unique backdrop of the Stadsweide and Gashouder, this rapidly growing Dutch festival has carved out its own identity in the European metal scene: “Metal served the Burgundian way.”

And they truly mean it.

While many festivals focus solely on the music, South of Heaven proudly embraces the good life. Expect excellent food, specialty beers, local hospitality and even their own Limburg-style pie. Yes, an actual festival vlaai! It is proving that this is a festival where heavy music and Burgundian culture go hand in hand. Whether you’re a carnivore, vegan, veggie lover or craft beer fanatic, the festival grounds are designed to make you feel at home between the blast beats and circle pits.

The 2026 line-up is stacked with legendary names and underground favorites alike. Friday’s newly introduced “Burgundian Night” kicks off with the party-metal madness of Alestorm, fantasy warriors Wind Rose and symphonic power metal heroes Gloryhammer.

Saturday raises the intensity with thrash titans Megadeth and Anthrax, alongside the farewell celebrations of Sepultura. Fans of extreme metal can also look forward to performances by Dismember, Hellripper and Severe Torture.

Sunday closes the weekend in style with Black Label Society, Cavalera performing a special Chaos A.D. set, plus appearances by Death To All, Septicflesh and many more.

Practicalities are equally well handled. The festival offers lockers, accessibility facilities, nearby accommodation options and easy travel information through the official channels. Families are welcome too, with free tickets for children up to 12 years old.

South of Heaven is more than a metal festival. It is a weekend where crushing riffs meet Limburg warmth, where strangers become drinking buddies, and where the mosh pit is followed by coffee and pie. Heavy music has rarely tasted this good.
