This March, Icelandic metallers Power Paladin return with their second album, Beyond The Reach Of Enchantment. The recent record presents eight tracks dedicated to bygone eras.

The starter, “Sword Vigor”, left the melodic metal and headed to core of Millenium’s Swedish sleaze wave. Raw even sticky sliding chords promised a good time. As long as you didn’t skip most of the tracks when you found something truly worthwhile. As for me, it’s “Keeper Of The Crimson Dungeon”, powerful in all the meanings as solid intentionally and fitting for announced genre. Speedy but misbalanced riffs, involved with macabre impressions. Highly recommend.

Now step aback. I can’t deny to mention “Glade Lords Of Athel Loren”, made with style. Fun confusing fact, on the first listening I was trying to figure out for what stands “a lots of” or “a loads of”, absolutely forgetting of an epoch’s shift with lords. Refrain is on top, btw. The perfect illustration for “Camelot Rock City” is album’s cover. The living picture with all that stuff. Continue theme, the lute waves good-bye and invites to the medieval rave. The last track “Valediction”, circa ten minutes, unreasonably long for formal afterword. Just saying.

Thing is, Power Paladin skillfully tells stories with a lute accompaniment, therefore stands beyond the reach of enchantment.
