Danko Jones – Leo Rising

Danko Jones – Leo Rising

Releasedate: 21-11-2025
Label: Perception

Technically formed in 1996 the rock trio Danko Jones fueled the rock stage with Born a Lion in 2002. Since then rockers made a mark of highly productive band, and this is time for the 12th studio album under Leo rising title. Is there evolution of epic feline, find out. So, rawr.

The current record completes 11 tracks in different levels of celebrating rock. “What You Need” not declaring but offering (action awaited for years). The tricky voice “Diamond In The Rough” starts roller coaster melodically. Easy living by free rock spirit blooms in “Everyday Is Saturday Night”. Not sore punk but familiar intentions in “I Love It Louder” told entirely by means of pure rock. “It’s A Celebration” emotionally intended with “I can feel new sensation”. Almost hissing “Pretty Stuff” on bass-line outstands from the tracklisting. The last mentioned track “Gotta Let It Go”, so vivid and encouraging, especially on closing part, provides alive & kicking mode.

Resuming Leo rising, got the point to the paradox of evolving gradations of singing mastery and missing part of something raw and primitive.

The band will celebrate 30th anniversary next year, and half of this time I kept an eye on Canadian rockers’ releases. Danko Jones has trademark to make rock n’ roll hymns. Staying true for themselves, the band honestly plays stuff they like and this time, unfortunately, serves “pepperoni pizza” cold. In other words, the record is quite interesting but no killer track stuck in mind. Besides, every day would be Saturday night.
