The current members of the bands with outstanding sound united under the name Alpha Destroyer and introduced themselves with the debut album Fast Lane this October.
The rock collaboration includes sleazy Crashdiet, punk Buckcherry and progressive Sleepless. For now it sounds pretty explosive, but find out what’s combination expected to be.
Fast Lane contains ten tracks that stylistically range between proto rock and grunge. The release is challenging for ears due to numerous dissonances and complexities. Overall, it stands out as the most serious and depthful record in recent years.
Regarding the musical structure, I’d divide the album into three parts. The first is promotional, featuring the previously released tracks: the speedy “Straight into the Grind” and “Fast Lane.” The second part is conceptually intriguing, with doom-influenced, low-tempo tracks like “Dirt In The Ground” along with “Lobotomized” and “Conspiracy.” The third part, which the album’s peaks, begins with “Masterplan,” a classic rock-attributed tune, but then grunge takes over with the refrain: “watch your step // watch your head.” The crying guitar solo and backing vocals in “Manic Messiah” evoke similar vibes to both Crashdiet and Nirvana. Finally, “The Prophet” serves as a flawless doomsday closing track. Additionally, Martin Sweet (Crashdiet)’s shift from backing vocals to the lead role turns out to be a great decision.
Fast Lane reverberates with haunting backing vocals—those “ah-ahs” and “hey-heys”—creating a layered, almost hypnotic atmosphere. It’s a familiar sound that echoes countless times before, yet somehow, it feels undeniably fresh and intense.
