The electronic project Jesus On Extasy formed in 2005 and called its quit in 2014. After five years since reunion announcement, the fifth record in JoE discography, Between Despair and Disbelief, scheduled to 12th of September via Metropolis Records.
The eleven cosmic tracks laid between despair and disbelief literally. The crawling and scratching “Ghosts” kick started the unstable conception. The album combines all the palette of minor emotions with positive things bound to happen. As approve, just listen to “Days Gone By” or “Somewhat Happy”. The refrain of the first mentioned song invited to cloudless future where “…all your sorrows and your pain// They will be dreams of days gone by”. Altogether, the teeth crushing and heart tearing components peaked in “A Hard Goodbye” and “Where Did We Go Wrong”. Most of track ends with instrumental passages in different rock styles, except the stand-alone drilling “Soul Crusher”, that the promising comeback started with months before. Technically, I bear to finish review with “The End of Everything”, because of its vibes doubled by shooting riffs and fussy keyboards in the end.
As for me, there is mixtape of NIN, Type O Negative, Depeche Mode and even Moby. In other words, the well-stitched record, including random kaleidoscopic pieces of solid millennium music legacy. Honestly, it’s total mess, pathetic and mind-blowing, dramatic and fragile. Possibly, one of the best comebacks.
