Swedish occult rock frontrunners Year of the Goat are back with the brand new album “Trivia Goddess”. The album is inspired by the most harrowing moments in women’s history in true satanic fashion, and we see the band collectively oppose the structures of true evil in the world with this one.
It’s been six years since Year of the Goat released their previous record so the anticipation has been quite high for this one. Let’s dig deep.
“Trivia Goddess” offers nine fantastic songs blended with sounds from the 60s, 70s and even the 80s! The occult essence of Year of the Goat stays strong, and we see the band also experimenting with gothic, dark/heavy metal and post-punk elements. The mix of vocals, catchy melodies, and dynamic drums gives the album its unique sound, making it flow easily.
Given the inspiration behind the album, the lyrics are just as meaningful as the sinister sound. So that makes some songs stand out a bit more and will lure you in. I personally found the first half of the album more powerful as it resonated with the theme and the inspiration a lot more with me. However, each listener will consume and interpret the album differently.
What a great comeback for Year of the Goat! “Trivia Goddess” is one fine occult rock record, and definitely a must-have for the fans of the band but also of the genre. I cannot think of a better way to start the autumn season.
