Swedish viking metal legends Månegarm are back with their 12th studio album, Edsvuren, out now via Napalm Records. This is also a a special occasion for the band as they are celebrating their 30th year anniversary with Edsvuren.
Edsvuren proves Manegarm’s drive and passion in their 30th year anniversary. With powerful melodies and the nice mix of harshness and soft elements in-between, the album offers just the perfect sound for viking/folk metal lovers. It is particularly fascinating to hear that Manegarm still keeps it refreshing while maintaining their essence; the mix of the traditional Nordic instruments with their metal sound is always a delight to the ears!
Edsvuren also offers a nice harmony of acoustic ballad-like songs (not a surprise for Manegarm fans) and the metal sound, making the album dynamic and fun. I always admired Manegarm for delivering the Nordic sound in a unique way and Edsvuren is no different.
Edsvuren comes with some highlights and one of them is definitely the component of female vocals. The band has collaborated with Ellinor Videfors and Liv Hope Lenard for various songs. Their female vocals compliments the harsh sound of the band very well, making Edsvuren dynamic and giving it a certain contrast, softness and even melancholy. Another ‘cute’ highlight is right in the first song: As with previous albums, mainman Erik collaborated with his daughter Lea once again.
Edsvuren is the perfect record to celebrate Manegarm’s 30th year anniversary! Definitely recommended to the fans of the band and this genre.
