Cthuluminati – Tentacula

Cthuluminati – Tentacula

Releasedate: 2025

Dutch progressive black/doom metal band Cthuluminati returns with Tentacula, a concept album that delves into themes of Faustian bargains, cosmic horror, and the human psyche.

Formed in 2015 by Devi Hisgen, Rami Wohl, and Stefan Strausz, the band has evolved their sound over the years, incorporating elements of psychedelic rock, sludge, and doom into their music. With the addition of Seth van de Loo (ex-Severe Torture) on drums, Cthuluminati continues to push the boundaries of their genre.

Tentacula is a six-track journey that blends black metal aggression with psychedelic and doom elements, creating a soundscape that is both haunting and captivating. The album’s story is about Thomas, an illusionist who makes a dark pact to expose the ancient deity Tentacula, leading him down a path of moral decay and existential questioning.

Opening with “Cthrl,” the album sets a tone of paranoia and manipulation, reflecting Tentacula’s subtle control over society. “Squid Pro Quo” delves into the internal conflict of Thomas as he contemplates the cost of his newfound powers. “Abysmal Quatrain” explores themes of grief and self-justification, while “Transformation” depicts the psychological and physical changes Thomas undergoes as he embraces his dark abilities. “The Illusion of Control” questions the authenticity of Thomas’s choices, and the closing track, “Mantra,” presents a climactic confrontation between man and deity

Musically, the album showcases the band’s versatility, with intricate guitar work, dynamic drumming, and atmospheric bass lines. The production is polished yet retains an organic feel, allowing the band’s complex compositions to shine. A great story to entertain yourself with.
